Meet María José Monteverde
Born and raised in the vibrant energy of Mexico City, María José Monteverde grew up in a lively household. Life in one of the world’s largest cities meant constant movement, noise, and discovery. There was always something new to explore, and that sense of curiosity never left her.
Her greatest influence was her father, who shaped the foundation of how she approaches life. Each day, he would ask a simple but powerful question: “What did you learn today?” That daily challenge sparked in her a lifelong drive to dig deeper, to question, and to always seek understanding. His passing taught her another profound lesson, that time is finite, and “what remains at the end of our days is everything we did, embraced, loved, and shared,” she reflects. Today, that perspective fuels both her personal and professional journey.
Described by friends and family as responsible, proactive, and persistent, María José is powered by the desire to understand the why behind everything.
A trained biologist with a master’s degree in biological sciences, she considers herself fortunate to have built a career around something she is so passionate about. Her field allows her to continuously explore environmental law, regulatory compliance, ecosystems, sustainability, statistics, and beyond. For her, learning isn’t a task, it’s a way of life.
Today, María José serves as Environmental Manager at NFE’s La Paz terminal in Baja California Sur, Mexico. In this role, she oversees comprehensive environmental and sustainability management across all operational phases, from construction and start-up to operation and maintenance. The position demands leadership, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving, all while upholding NFE’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
What she values most about NFE is growth and balance. “I’ve found a place that allows me to grow professionally while maintaining a good work-life balance,” she shares. “Every day there’s something new to learn and solve.” María is powered by “the constant pursuit of learning and self-improvement,” she says. “I find energy in growth and progress.”
