Jamaica is to brew its iconic Red Stripe beer using LNG, after brewer Desnoes & Geddes struck a long-term gas-supply deal with US-based New Fortress Energy – aiming to become the first major manufacturer on the Caribbean island to make the switch.
Red Stripe Jamaica says converting its brewery to run on LNG will generate annual cost savings of more than US$336,000 and supports the company’s sustainability goals. Jamaica Gleaner reports that Red Stripe hopes to make the switch by September, overtaking Jamaican bauxite miner Jamalco, which is planning to switch next year, having also signed a supply deal with New Fortress.
