Meet Hugo
Growing up in Belém do Pará, Brazil, where the Amazon Basin meets the Atlantic Ocean, Hugo Farias was surrounded by nature’s power and beauty. That early connection sparked his passion for sustainability, a passion that now inspires his work in energy and environmental management.
“I have always been curious about nature and the natural phenomena that govern our lives,” Hugo says. “I have also been passionate about exact sciences, and environmental engineering allowed me to bring these interests together.”
As an Environmental Specialist at our liquefied natural gas terminal and power plants in Barcarena, Pará, Hugo ensures that operations run responsibly, protecting the Amazon while supporting access to cleaner and more affordable energy for Pará. He oversees environmental management, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and municipal regulations. He also manages environmental licensing, reporting, and the implementation of social and environmental programs to mitigate the project’s impacts.
Hugo also credits his parents for demonstrating that respect, solidarity, and kindness are the foundation for becoming a contributing member of society. Whether solving complex environmental challenges or supporting his team, Hugo’s calm leadership and fun spirit make him a trusted guide. Today, his family, including his wife, as well as his friends, are the pillars who help him overcome challenges and focus on continuous learning and growth such as his goal to become a workplace safety engineer.
For Hugo, energy isn’t just about power— it’s about progress. With every project, he’s working to build a future where sustainable energy ensures development and environmental stewardship.
“I am proud to contribute to the licensing, construction, and operation of the first natural gas terminal in northern Brazil,” he says, “which brought energy diversification to Pará through a cleaner source for the Amazon. I’m powered by positive energy knowing that I contribute to the sustainable development of the state where I was born and raised. With New Fortress Energy, I help to improve the quality of life for the current society while also focusing on protecting natural resources for future generations of Paraenses.”
