Where are NFE scholars today? Spotlight on Amoy Vernon

OUR FOUNDATION

Our scholars are doing remarkable things

The New Fortress Energy (NFE) Foundation scholarship awarded to Amoy Vernon in 2018 encouraged her to focus on completing her degree from the Caribbean Maritime University with an impressive GPA. Amoy is an active student leader, an avid volunteer, and a mentor and we agree with her that "this is only the beginning of great things." We are honored to have supported Amoy and our LNG community so she could continue reaching for the stars!

Amoy Vernon

A letter from Amoy

"I have written to express my sincere and profound thanks to you and New Fortress Energy. In October 2018, I was awarded a scholarship under New Fortress Energy’s Tertiary Scholarship Award programme. I was dumbfounded to say the least. New Fortress Energy gave to me, the gift of hope in a time when all hope seemed to be lost; and so, with the support of the company and my mother I embarked on the third year of my academic journey. One year later, I was again awarded the scholarship and once more I felt blessed. I no longer had to work as much to help my mother send me to school. With the reduced workload I was able to spend more time with my family and focus on the matter at hand - completing my degree. Needless to say, I am beyond grateful to New Fortress Energy for investing time, energy, money and faith in me. Your assistance came at the perfect time. I was nearing the end of my academic journey, battling unfavourable health conditions which cost a lot to manage. It was right when my mom began making several extra sacrifices to come up with the outstanding tuition. Your help came right in the nick of time. The support was a blessing, a miracle in a time of need.

The assistance allowed me to continue being the best version of myself. In fact, I was an active student leader, an avid volunteer, a mentor, a tutor for international students, the Secretary for the Literary Arts, Public Speaking and Debating Society, a writer and proofreader for the CMU’s student led magazine and an intern in the Office of Marketing & Communications among a host of other areas of involvement. Without New Fortress Energy it would not have been possible. I am happy to report that I am currently at the end of this journey. On August 31st I successfully completed my studies with at 3.4 GPA. Presently, I anticipate the upcoming graduation ceremony on the 28th of January this year. I would also like to report that I was employed by the Wisynco Group Limited in September 2020, in the Warehouse/Operations department where I am currently the Dispatch Assistant. I would like to assure you that this is only the beginning of great things.

Thank you again for investing in me and students like me. You have given us the ability to dream bigger than we ever could before and to reach for stars that once seemed out of reach.  At the very end of the essay section in the scholarship application I submitted to New Fortress Energy in 2018, I quoted Philippians 4:13. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” I believed it then and I believe it now. I am thankful for all you have done for me.

Best wishes,

Amoy Alana Vernon"
